Bharuchi Dal Recipe

-.500 gm urad dal
2 onions
1 teaspoon. turmeric
1 tablespoon. ground ginger
1 tablespoon. ground garlic
1 tbs. ground chilies
1 teaspoon. red chili powder
1 teaspoon. cumin (zeera powder)
1 teaspoon. garam masala
3 tomatoes
FOR TEMPERING:
5 cloves 5nos.
1 inch cinnamon stick
5 6 cardamom 5nos.
1 \2 teaspoon. mace (javetri)
1 teaspoon. whole jeera
2 tablespoon. fresh methi
1/4 cup oil or ghee
Method
1.Cut one onion into small squares.Place dal and diced onion in a pressure cooker. Cook until tender.
2. Slice the other onion thinly. Heat oil in a pan and fry onion until light brown, add cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, javantri and whole zeera and fry for 1 minute. Then add methi and fry for 12 more minutes.
3. Add chopped tomatoes and all other ingredients except garam masala to the onion mixture. Fry this for 810 minutes or until the oil begins to separate.
4. Add dal to it and mix well with a wooden spoon. Cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low and cook for 5-8 minutes or until the masala is well blended. Mash some of the lentil with a wooden spoon against the side of the pan to thicken the sauce. Add garam masala and season to taste with salt.
5. Serve with plain boiled rice or chapati.




Bharuchi daal originated from BHARUCH DISTRICT OF gujarat state in India
and no urad daal is used but Toor daal is used as I am originated from
Bharuch district and am in catering trade on very large scale for wedding and mass catering events.
